Agreement concluded between the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa and the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Fukui

The Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Fukui has signed an academic exchange agreement and student mobility agreement with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa, Canada on November 11th at the Matsuoka Campus, University of Fukui. The official signing ceremony previously scheduled in July 2020 at the University of Ottawa was postponed due to the COVID-19, and it was realized by signing electronically this time.

Established in 1848 as Bytown University (Bytown is the former name of the city of Ottawa), The University of Ottawa is ranked 145th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021 (released in 2020), it is one of the top universities in the world. Professor B. K. Tsang of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa and Professor YOSHIDA Yoshio of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Fukui have received numerous international awards for international joint research projects, and have led the field of obstetrics and gynecology between Canada and Japan.

At the signing ceremony, Prof. NAIKI Hironobu, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Fukui said, “The official signing ceremony at the University of Ottawa has been postponed, but this is a very meaningful agreement with the enthusiasm to deepen mutual exchanges for both universities.” Prof. SADA Kiyonao, Assistant to the President who is also the chair of the International Exchange Committee of the Faculty of Medical Sciences talked about the prospects. “Once the COVID-19 pandemic situation is over, I hope the two universities can jointly hold symposiums and seminars.” Professor YOSHIDA said, “I am very pleased that the exchange between the department of obstetrics and gynecology has evolved into an exchange between the faculty level. I’ll do my best to help this agreement to even step up to the university level in the future.”

The University of Fukui will deepen exchanges with important overseas partners such as the University of Ottawa and aim for our further internationalization.
